Turmeric Green Tea
Let’s boost that immune system today!
And yes, these are the things in life that get me excited.
Last weekend, after a chilly Sunday morning run, this turmeric tea was on my mind.
So, as my boyfriend was frying the eggs, I began mixing up a turmeric paste. All seemed right in the kitchen that morning. Our time in the kitchen is my favorite time. Especially on the weekends. I think most can agree - the weekends are when we can pause. smell. taste. enjoy.
This tea is for the slower days. When we all need a comforting nutritional boost.
It is a recipe inspired from the Whole 30 program that incorporates whole foods and organic proteins in your diet while eliminating processed foods, grains and sugars that leave you feeling dull. It’s not a diet, but rather a lifestyle. Even my-sweet-tooth-crazed-self wants to preach from the rooftop about what this program has done for me.
But instead, I will just share this Whole 30 recipe with you. And also because it’s just a great tea to add to your hot drink routine.
This tea is a nutritional powerhouse.
green tea + canned coconut milk + coconut oil + turmeric + cinnamon + ginger
TIP: It is crucial that you buy canned coconut milk! In the can, the only ingredient is coconut, which is very different from the cartons you see at the store. Those are loaded with artificial sweeteners. And don’t be fooled by “unsweetened” versions because even those are loaded with weird unnatural ingredients.
So blend, sip and smile. :)
Immune Boosting Turmeric Green Tea
Recipe from Whole 30 Recipes, makes 2 servings
- 2 cups hot green tea (steep for about 3 minutes)
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- 1 tablespoon coconut milk (canned, with no additives)
- ½ tsp. ground turmeric
- ¼ tsp. grated fresh ginger root
- ¼ tsp. cinnamon
- sprinkle of ground cloves (optional)
Directions:
- Make the turmeric paste: stir together the coconut oil and turmeric until it creates a paste.
- Steep the green tea. Then, pour the green tea into a blender and add the paste. Add the remaining ingredients and blend on high until it becomes frothy.
- Pour into mugs and sprinkle with desired spices, like cinnamon.
- TIP: If you only make one cup of tea, you can save half of the turmeric paste in the refrigerator to use in your tea the next day.
Even in the holiday season, with treats and candy all around us…
It is also a time to refresh and feel good.
