Easy Banana Oatmeal Muffins for Toddlers

If you have toddlers and want an easy recipe to make with them, this is it! I have already made these banana oatmeal muffins twice this week with my kids. Or you can make yourself, and can whip up quickly in one bowl, no mixer required.

I find that if I have to mix or blend or do anything more complicated than just mixing up in a bowl, I won’t want to do it. Especially with muffins. When I think of muffins, I think of getting a big glass bowl out and just mixing it all together and putting into tins. I think of it as easy. And no-fuss. And that is what I think about when I think about this recipe! This is why I call these an easy banana oatmeal recipe for toddlers. I need “easy” in the title!!!!!

The ingredients in these are pretty simple and you’re likely to have all of these ingredients in your pantry and kitchen:

  • Bananas

  • Milk (I use any milk we have on hand!)

  • Quick cooking oats

  • Flour

  • Eggs

  • Ground Cinnamon

  • Vanilla Extract

  • Baking Soda

  • Maple Syrup

  • Chocolate Chips

My tip for baking with kids is to put a paper towel down so they can help scoop and measure but it doesn’t leave a mess. You place the paper towel in front of them so when they measure anything, anything that falls over just lands on the towel and it makes for suuuper easy clean up!

I love these muffins because they are super yummy and kids love them, but they are adult approved, too. I personally love them and snack on them! And the batter is sweetened with just bananas and maple syrup – no added sugars. Which feels more wholesome. Now, I do add a heaping cup of chocolate chips, and it makes these extra fun and a treat.

This recipe will make exactly 12 muffins. I fill the tins up pretty much all the way because they will not raise up too much - and I love to get it all into 12 muffin tins (less pans to wash!!). So, if you don’t fill all of the way in the tins, the batter will probably make a few more than 12.

This banana oatmeal muffin recipe for toddlers is a keeper! Our family pretty much finishes a batch up in a day or two, so they don’t last long!

Easy Banana Oatmeal Muffins for Toddlers

Makes 12-14 muffins

  • 2 medium bananas, mashed

  • ¾ cup milk

  • 2 eggs

  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract

  • 2 cups quick cooking oats

  • 1 cup all purpose flour

  • 1 ¼ cups chocolate chips

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk the banana until few chunks remain. Add the milk and whisk. Add the eggs and whisk. Add the maple syrup and whisk together.

  2. Add the vanilla, baking soda and cinnamon and whisk.

  3. Using a wooden spoon, add the flour and oats and stir to combine.

  4. Add in the chocolate chips.

  5. Spray a muffin tin with non-stick spray or use muffin liners and fill 12 muffin tins almost to the top (these will not rise too much so you can fill the tins to the top!)

  6. Bake at 350 for 18 minutes. Check the muffins about 15 minutes in and see how they are baking.  At 18 minutes, the middle should be baked and the edges golden. Bake for a minute or two longer if the middle doesn’t seem done. Take out and let cool a few minutes in the muffin tins and then remove to cool completely on a wire rack.

  7. Store at room temperature up to 4 days in an air tight container, or you can store in the fridge for up to a week.
