Chewy M&M Cookie Recipe

IMG_3895.jpeg

Growing up, my brother’s favorite cookie was the M&M cookie. And I don’t blame him, they are SO good. These are heavy on the dark brown sugar, which is another reason they are chewy and yummy. I prefer dark brown sugar for my cookie recipes, but either dark or light will work for this recipe. This is also another recipe from my cookie cookbook, and a family recipe we have made since before I can remember. My mom used to make these so much growing up. And the recipe has stayed in our family ever since. It’s really the only M&M cookie recipe I ever make, if I am going to make an M&M cookie.

I was recently asked what my favorite cookie was, and this was on my list for one of the top. I think because no one really ever makes M&M cookies that much, so it’s unexpected. It’s not a sugar cookie with M&Ms, which is what you see at bakeries or Starbucks. It’s more of a chocolate chip cookie flavor, but with M&M’s instead of chocolate chips. It’s simple, fun, delicious and just makes you happy.

I also think my family loves this recipe because anything with colorful M&M’s is good in my book. And what is so fun is that you can use different colors depending on the season! With spring approaching, the spring colors are fun to use. But you can also make around the holidays with red and green. And I have even made on the 4th of July for a party and used red, white and blue. It’s super versatile and this is also a great recipe to bring to a get together or a party. It’s sure to please!

Chewy M&M Cookies

  • 2 sticks (1 cup) unsalted butter

  • 1/2 cup white sugar

  • 1 cup dark brown sugar

  • 2 eggs

  • 1/2 tsp. water

  • 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract

  • 1 tsp. baking soda

  • 1 tsp. salt

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 1/2 cups candy-coated chocolate (M&M candies)

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  2. In a mixer, cream together the butter and sugars. Add in the eggs and water and mix to combine. Then, cream in the vanilla extract.

  3. Add in the baking soda, salt and flour and mix until fully combined and flour is mixed into the dough.

  4. Add in the M&M’s and stir until just combined. I save some extra to top the dough balls with the M&M’s.

  5. Scoop dough on cookie sheet and top each dough ball with a few M&M’s.

  6. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until the cookies are slightly becoming golden brown on the edges.

  7. Take out and let cool and then store in airtight container.
