Apple Crisp
For me, nothing feels like fall more than warm apple crisp fresh out of the oven. It's a dessert my family had growing up so often that I immediately picture my younger self eating it at our kitchen table after a week night dinner.
This crisp is just more proof that food is more than just food. It's memories, traditions and often tells a story. It's a part of us. By golly, I sure feel that this apple crisp is a part of my family.
You can also get my recipe posted on St. Louis Magazine, here.
Hope you love it as much as my family and I do!
Apple Crisp
Ingredients:
4–5 apples (Granny Smith and/or Jonathan), cored and chopped
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup old-fashioned oats
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/3 cup unsalted butter, cubed
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 375 F.
Place the chopped apples in the bottom of a buttered baking dish (such as a 2-quart baking dish)
Combine the remaining ingredients in a bowl and mash together with a fork until completely combined and butter is crumbled and mixed throughout. You can also pulse in a food processor to combine. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apples to cover completely.
Bake the crisp in the oven for 30–40 minutes. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, if desired.
